Which is the right door closer for you ?

Fire door closers

To prevent the spread of smoke and fire, fire doors need to be closed. This means that doors need to be fitted with a closer to ensure they shut at a safe speed behind users. As with all hardware relating to a fire door, closers must be up to fire rated standard.

Standard arm closers can usually be adjusted to a speed and power range appropriate for the needs of the building’s users.

Electric closers don’t produce any noise so are suitable for quieter building environments. Most electric door closers need to be hard-wired to a power source and therefore installation costs are likely to be higher.

Concealed door closers have aesthetic benefits and are particularly suitable for schools and public buildings as they cannot be vandalised.

Automatic door openers have a user-operated remote button to open the door. They are useful in buildings such as hospitals where hygiene is vital, or for wheelchair users.

Free swing overhead closers, such as Freedor, hold fire doors open and automatically close them in the event of a fire alarm. They also removing weight from the fire door which means they are particularly suited to care homes, hospitals or hotels where people may find heavy fire doors difficult.
