THE PROBLEM
“Before coming to Fireco, fire doors were being held open with wedges,” explains the Coastal Estates Manager with the RNLI. “Over time, this caused the doors to warp – which is never a good thing.”
With around 40 staff and volunteers on the books, the impact was felt across the whole team. But the risks extended beyond door damage alone.
“When an emergency call came in, doors had to be opened quickly – and speed is everything at a lifeboat station,” he says. “The way things were set up just wasn’t working for us.”
the solution
Fireco installed 2 Freedor Pros and 6 DorMag Pros across the station, connected via a ProHub.
“The products and installation from Fireco were suggested by our Health and Safety Manager,” the Coastal Estates Manager continues. This has resulted in improved fire safety with less wear and tear on the doors.
Since installation, the difference has been clear. “Doors will not be wedged open now, and there’ll be less maintenance on them,” he says. “Overall, fire safety has been improved due to the installation of these products.”
Freedor Pro is a door closer that takes the weight out of heavy fire doors, allowing you to keep them placed open at a convenient angle with its free-swing feature.
DorMag Pro is a wireless fire door magnet that legally holds fire doors open and automatically releases them upon alarm activation.
ProHub is the central controller for the Fireco Pro System. Wired directly into your fire panel, it communicates with all Fireco Pro devices in your building via a dedicated radio network. When your fire alarm sounds, ProHub sends a signal to each device to release all fire doors.
